About

Kath is an environmental chemist with research interests across nuclear decommissioning and radioactive waste disposal. She leads the Radioactive Waste Disposal and Environmental Remediation National Nuclear User Facility at Manchester which enables research on low level environmental samples. Her research focusses on understanding the fate of radionuclides in engineered and natural environments. She works with UKRI and industry funding across a range of areas including understanding radionuclide behaviour and transport in radioactively contaminated land and remediation, radioactive effluent treatment and radioactive waste disposal. Her work in ELEMENTAL brings her expertise on radiochemistry and her knowledge on remediation and effluent treatment to the bio-engineering forum.

Key areas of expertise:

– Environmental radiochemistry experimental research

– Chemical speciation techniques including X-ray absorption spectroscopy

– Biogeochemistry expertise
