Jon currently leads a multidisciplinary geomicrobiology group working at the interface between biology and geology. Jon’s research focuses on the mechanisms of microbial metal reduction, with emphasis on the environmental impact and biotechnological applications of metal-reducing bacteria. Current activities are supported by funds from NERC, BBSRC, EPSRC, the EU and industry. Jon is also a Senior Visiting Fellow at the National Nuclear Laboratory, which helps support the development of the nuclear geomicrobiology programme.
Key areas of expertise:
The University of Manchester and Elemental
The University of Manchester are developing innovative metallic biorecovery strategies using the tools of engineering biology, and integrate them into UK industrial sectors to support the circular economy.
