Internal and external funding opportunities of interest to Hub members
Elemental Metal Hub will launch a funding call to support undergraduate students undertaking research projects during the 2025 summer vacation period.
These Summer Research Studentships are designed to foster knowledge exchange and stimulate research and innovation. Projects should be aligned with the Elemental Metal Hub’s objectives and pave the way for future collaborations or demonstrate potential to strengthen industry relationships.
Funding will be available to Elemental’s research collaborators: Durham University, University of East Anglia, The University of Manchester, Natural History Museum, Quadram Institute, University of Surrey, UCL, University of York, and University of Kent. Industry partners are not required but are encouraged.
We will be inviting applications for short-term (6–12 week) research projects that align closely with the objectives of the Elemental Metal Hub and the future BIV scheme, particularly those focused on:
Student involvement in industrially relevant research
Feasibility studies for new innovations
Preliminary data generation
Development of proof-of-concept prototypes
Further information and guidance on this funding opportunity can be found here.
Elemental Metal Hub will soon be launching the pilot round of Business Interaction Vouchers (BIVs), designed to foster innovation, knowledge exchange, and meaningful collaboration between academia and industry.
Funded through the BBSRC Engineering Biology Mission Hub, these BIVs support projects within the remit of the Engineering Biology Hub for Environmental Processing of Metals (ELEMENTAL)– from contaminated land to industrial biotechnology, all within a circular economy framework.
BIVs enable businesses to collaborate with research partners on initiatives that drive research, innovation, and commercial growth. Priority will be given to new collaborations, though existing partnerships may also be supported where they contribute to advancing the technology readiness level (TRL).
Examples of projects include generating new experimental data, data analysis, technical consultancy, a literature review and extended exchange visits.
Priority Will Be Given to Projects That:
All proposals must be clearly aligned with the Elemental Metal Hub’s objectives, and relevant to the BBSRC’s remit in industrial biotechnology and bioenergy.
Please note: Only registered Elemental Hub members will receive updates regarding the BIV competition launch.
To stay informed, we encourage you to register now and join our growing innovation community.
We are pleased to announce that ELEMENTAL BBSRC Engineering Biology Mission Hub will be offering funding for PDRAs to attend EBIC’S EARLY CAREER CONFERENCE scheduled to be held 8-9 July, 2025, at Edinburgh.
