UK and US sign Memorandum of Understanding on critical minerals

The United Kingdom and United States have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on critical minerals in Washington, DC, marking a major step forward in securing resilient supply chains for the technologies of the future.

Critical minerals, such as lithium, cobalt, nickel and rare earth elements, are essential to modern manufacturing, from renewable energy systems to advanced electronics and electric vehicles. Reliable and diversified supply chains are vital to reducing geopolitical risks and accelerating the clean energy transition.

Under the new UK-US partnership, both countries will deepen cooperation to boost investment, streamline permitting, and strengthen mining, processing and supply chain collaboration for these strategic resources. This agreement supports domestic industry growth and helps address global supply challenges.

This MoU builds on broader international efforts to enhance critical minerals security and reflects a shared commitment to innovation, economic resilience and future-ready technology supply chains.
