About

Dr Louise Natrajan is a Reader in Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Manchester and has carved out a prominent cross-disciplinary niche focussing on the:

  • Emission spectroscopy of actinides, pushing limits on detection and understanding of rare oxidation states relevant to nuclear fuel and environmental remediation, including the development of fluorescence imaging techniques.
  • Coordination chemistry and emission spectroscopy of the lanthanides for biorecovery, and chemical speciation
  • Engineering fluorogenic biological sensors via cutting-edge lanthanide based upconversion materials.
  • New lanthanide-lanthanide and lanthanide-actinide separation technologies
  • Championing public engagement and gender equity in STEM.

Her work not only advances fundamental inorganic and spectroscopic chemistry, but also delivers practical tools for f-element recovery, environmental monitoring, healthcare sensing, and nuclear safety.
