The Government Chief Scientific Adviser, Professor Dame Angela McLean, visited the University of York on 19 February 2025 to explore its cutting-edge research programmes and their role in driving regional economic growth. During her visit, Dame Angela toured several laboratories, including the BioYorkshire lab, where she learned from Dr Liz Rylott about engineering biology approaches for recovering critical metals such as nickel from plant-based sources.

This is the second time an ELEMENTAL CoI has spoken with Dame Angela in the past year. In April 2024 she toured Durham University and met with CoI Dr Peter Chivers.
